5 Life Inspiration Resources
Wouldn’t it be great that when we’re born we’re all given a guide to how to live our lives in pure bliss? Right! I wonder how that would change the world.
Well, I may not have this exact guide for you, but being that Valentine's Day was just yesterday, I thought I'd send some love your way in the form of a list of resources for inspiration. Some of these I’ve kept close and listened to even before I manifested such growth in my life those two years ago, and they continue to evolve with me—or me with them—as I learn and continue to grow.
This is a short list of a few people I follow via podcasts, YouTube, books, whether audio or kindle, and some I’ve taken courses from. Everyone has impacted my life in a very positive way in one form or another. I’ll explain a bit for each person.
5 Life Inspiration Resources
1 – Jess C. Lively
I started listening to Jess over 3 or 4 years ago, before I left my full-time job to pursue my stationery company. It was through her interviews of other creative entrepreneurs, women like me, that I was inspired to start the path of independent business woman! Little did I imagine that I would still be listening to her these many years later, but Jess is someone I have truly evolved with, in such similar ways, that she continues to inspire me to keep on this growth path day by day.
2 – Marie Forleo
Marie came into my life just three months after I left my full-time job (yes, I measure pretty much everything as before or after FTJ—full-time job). The year I started watching her videos was the year I had DECLARED the year of growth in my life. Never had I acknowledged the need for this declaration, but doing so brought me into contact, if only digitally, with so many people and specialist in the personal development realm—I call her my gate-way drug into self-help. It’s because of Marie that I understood that building a business was not just about making money, but more about building a business with heart.
3 – Gabrielle Bernstein
Gabby was one of those spiritual souls that I came to know thanks to my declaration for growth. I came upon her videos and blog posts, but I have to admit I wasn’t all that into her. She had a certain vibe that seemed off-putting, arrogant (and she acknowledges this in an interview w/ Jonathan Fields), so I’d intake her content sporadically—whatever called to me.
It was Gabby’s book, The Universe Has Your Back, that helped me release a lot of control and fear issues. It was one of those things that came at the perfect time in my life—like they all have, actually—and I was ready to take all those lessons and apply them in my day to day. I took Gabby’s teachings as daily guides, and I continue to read them daily every morning.
4 – Jonathan Fields
I started listening to Jonathan Fields shortly after Jess. It was also his interviews with entrepreneurs and some creatives that helped me see that being a business owner was so much more than what a typical business school teaches. Especially as a creative, soul-searching person, his podcasts inspired me to stay true to myself and dig deeper to the realms of personal development before establishing a business I ‘thought’ I wanted to build.
5 – Oprah Winfrey
Oprah, well it’s Oprah.
I like to say Oprah was my nanny while growing up in front of the TV as my mom worked a full-time job to raise three kids on her own. I’d get home from school—latch-key kid, here—would turn on the TV to channel 10, and wait for The Oprah Winfrey Show to start. That’s where my yearning for personal growth developed. Mostly, it was thanks to Oprah that I knew there was more to life than the rational. Now I like to listen to her Super Soul Sundays and Sessions, and learn from the varied spiritual teachers and others, like me, who have followed a path of growth or lived through life situations that have brought them to growth.
While I've bought many—and I mean MANY—books in the personal and business growth realm, I must admit I haven't read them all. Some I bought as suggestions from my business/marketing course w/ Marie Forleo, others because they were written by the people I follow. But I've always taken my time to read every word when I am called to do so. I’ve found I appreciate each message more profoundly when I don’t force myself to complete a book by a certain time.
I hope this short list of people who have had an impact on my life help you in any little way. Just let yourself be called to it and they will give you exactly what you need, when you need it.
